Tom Cruise 'deeply saddened' after Katie Holmes hires divorce attorney
Tom Cruise is "very sad" after wife Katie Holmes hired a divorce attorney, his spokesman said Friday.
The office of New Jersey divorce attorney Jonathan W. Wolfe confirmed to The Times on Friday that Wolfe is representing Holmes, but declined to say whether the actress has formally begun divorce proceedings.
A spokeswoman for Cruise released a statement to The Times: "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
No case has been filed in Los Angeles County, where the couple have a home, court officials said.
In a statement released to People magazine, Wolfe said, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."
Wolfe's website notes that he specializes in “sophisticated business litigation and significant matrimonial disputes.”
Holmes' publicist did not immediately return calls for comment.
The couple, who married in November 2006, have a 6-year-old daughter, Suri.
